A look at women in war and war literatures

Google image Jansi Rani
Time to time, wars occur in this world regardless of penchant of any living being on this earth and at most times wars are forced. In very early days, homo-erectus who were the earliest generation of human-evolution had fights with other animals and the only purpose behind the fights was to get food and it made no harms to the environment. But later on, the evolution itself urged needs for fights and the behind reasons also started growing. When the stage of human evolution turned to be homo-sapiens from the stage of homo-erectus, these small fights also became wars since the reasons had been turned to be ambitions focused. But it is not a thing to be said proudly that it is a sign of evolution as very obviously, each war owes desecrated records of stories and each drop of blood which is spoiled in the roads was used for creation, then this world would have been somewhere else. But here what I want to tell is that the word war itself is seen as a fact that is more supportive to masculine gender. The traditional literatures related to wars criticize feminine as much vulnerable to wars or as reasons for the occurrence of wars. A very popular traditional Tamil literature ‘Ramayana’ illustrates a woman called Seetha as the reason for the war occurred between Rama who was the king of Ayothi in India and Ravana who was the king of Sri Lanka. Though the literature explicitly says ‘Seetha’ as the reason for war, but when going deeply into the literature it can be observed that the prime reason was the ‘haughtiness and dominance of Ravana who was the king of Sri Lanka’. In my view, whenever wars occur, it happens due to two reasons which are the advantages taken by the dominant side and the vulnerable aspects of the other side and it can be simply said due to the ‘cheap mentality of human beings’ and their inexpensive perception which is ‘they can dominate the whole world’ which will never happen. As the best example  ‘Hitler’s German as the heart of the world’ concept can be considered. So when a person or people mislead with some specific advantages that they have got, it is obviously harmful to the people who don’t have it. Thus from this harmful side, always an opposition is influenced with a specific leadership and this is the ultimate point where wars start. But all the war literatures focus much on stimulating ‘heroism’ which is only consecrated to masculine or they criticize women as factors which are so far away from war or much vulnerable or even as reasons for the occurrence of wars. Let’s take the Vietnam War literature; it only focuses creating heroism for the American soldiers who were sent to Vietnam against communists. What literatures try to criticize about women in war is only on how they were harmful to the war, how they were used as motivators of men in war. But the reality says it different. According to Gillian Courtney in the article of Contribution of women in revolution of America, it is mentioned that a lot of women made significant levels of contributions to revolutions especially it rewards women such as Margaret Cochran Corbin and Mary Ludwig Hays who directly contributed to the victory. Even in the eastern world, women such as Jansi Rani can be rewarded in the top position for the revolution against Slavism. But I think the very traditional Tamil literatures talk much about women and wars. Literatures such as ‘purananuru’, and ‘kalithokai’ have given significant importance to women and they say young girls gave high priority to marry the soldiers and a mother’s story was quiet popular in puranauru and the story is short enough as follows. A mother had seven children and she had already lost her husband in war. So she decided to send her children for the warfare and according to her decision, six children were sent and they were killed by enemies. Then also she sent her last child which was an infant and it also was killed and alas, she went and died. So I think very traditional Tamil literatures have given a good space for women which truly lacks in the modern literatures even. Also the other thing that war literatures forget to talk about is the normal people’s lives especially on how they were treated by dominant parties, how painful was their bunger lives and how their blood and energy were spoiled. But Golden Age a novel by Thamima Anam gives an excellent output outlined on normal people’s lives and their circumstances occurred during Afhan war. Though war is a perfect desecration, by all the means, war literatures must arise and they will help others who were not affected by war for an understanding on how painful it is and of course it will be a good realization on truths. The only fact that can be said proudly about anyone who fails in the war is that at least they were not cowardice and did something ambitiously and yes in reality, women do a lot.

In my view, inconsistency and the reasons for why it exists

Very recently I met a person saying ‘discrepancies must remain in this world’. I was really shocked and asked why it is so and his reply was “if everyone has money, then there will be no rich or poor people in this world. People who are rich work hard and that’s why they are rich and others are not” this was his opinion. But does it seem to be the only reason as that friend perceived? I do agree that all rich and popular people in this world are hard-workers and because of their hard-work only they could achieve such a position. But does it mean that a poor one not having any dreams to become rich and not working hard? Actually lower class or blue collar people are the ones working much hard and very sadly they get lower income. They work for today, live for today, looking to solve today’s problems and that’s it they are happy on it. But I think this might be the reason for why they remain poor for the whole life and if they also think about tomorrow, they would try to earn more but the certainty is that these people are much happier than those who are rich. Anyway in my view, there are four major facts influencing in the aspect of discrepancy in such a way why this inconsistency exist in this world. First thing is that there are people who always want this discrepancy to remain and they take advantage of vulnerable people or societies, they ensure their domination with some specific advantages they have such as power, money and status or whatever. Second fact itself is the vulnerable societies, they may want to overcome the problems they have but they can’t or they need to work hard to achieve it but most of the times, all their efforts will despoiled by dominators. Third fact is there are people who always take or habitually make benefits by standing between these two parties and they act like helping to those poor ones but actually not, at times they might be the representatives of dominant parties and what becomes their plus point is that they are very good at making people to believe at them in their ‘double-dealing business’. The last and least fact is that some of these vulnerable or poor or despoiled societies not knowing about what they have really loosen or how they have been despoiled or they know it but not trying to do anything as they are tired of working, as their efforts are wasted at each stage where they put their soul to improve them and as alas they have no hopes in that their lives also will be lighted one day. In a same city, some people’s worries may be on how they can make them to shine in a party, some may worry on how to earn more, some may worry on what to do next and some may even doubt on whether they can have their breakfast or not. I see the needs are decided by discrepancy, behaviors, life and life-style are decided by one particular aspect which is ‘inconsistency’ in this world and the way how people are treated get changed according to their classes. Anyway it is not to say only this particular area decides the life; there are things that may change the life and why not the whole world so will believe everything will change considering change is the only thing that has no end forever. But it is not logical to expect dominators to change their views, mentality and to have good hearts understanding the feelings of people who owe less or no power, resources and status or whatever the factors making influences in a fact call lobbying with other parties. So I think a change must be initiated from the side that has a need of improvement or development and then only existing inconsistencies might at least have a move towards equality.

Only to have good memories

I am on my blog after a very long time seeing it is nothing specifically on my mind to write on. But obviously I didn’t write for more than one month and was really rushing with my studies. This seems to be the important stage of my life. Every day new faces, different experiences, dreams and learning from it. Each and every second of this life is precious as they are not going to return anymore whether they make me happy or not. It was once upon a time when people’s life was only limited to some close friends and only within some places such as their work-place and home. But now companies’ even seeking for personnel who are multi-talented and concept of being an ‘all-rounder’ has become crucial. So this pushes you doing a lot. When you are to do a lot, you need a lot of people who will be helping on it. But obviously people helping and at the same time they make considerable level of inconveniences. It becomes really hard to find what they actually thinking but their mouths say different words with a smile. Psychology only can be used to discover whether a person lying or not. But nowadays people are smarter than they were some years back and they know how to be steady even when they are lying. I would like if someone can invent a machine that actually tells what the other person thinks in the mind. I am writing it because I have had some experiences during last month with someone whose behaviors are hard to predict. Anyway each person has a good side as well another that seems so hard to predict. Only thing that can be a solution for everything is to understand and accept both the good and bad sides since it becomes not so logical to expect a person to be perfect at all. As I mentioned earlier, time will never be returned so it is better only having good memories. Even this minute in which am writing, also cannot be got again. I had almost nothing in my mind when started writing and in the middle I remembered something that happened few days back and it has automatically dragged my fingers in the keyboard to write on.

Are we so reluctant (from a Tamil’s perspective being a Tamil myself)

Being a Jaffna Tamil, I’ve been proud and will be for the whole life because us is the only society that still successfully survives with all kinds of circumstances, wounds and all unforgettable tearful memories of war. In any corner of the world, our people are there and other than some desecrated stories, others are doing well. What I meant by ‘desecrated stories’ is that most of our guys are surviving in such jobs which are really not suitable or not up to their standards. Even most of them find it as a ruin of their ‘self esteem’ and a painful way of living but what to do? They have spent a lot on going to such countries and of course they have lost a lot. Anyway they have to earn and this is one part of the ‘western Tamil society’. Other part remains somewhat green and it contributes those who had gone there several years ago and have stared their own businesses. It is strongly encourage able since these people don’t depend on anyone else and is good sign of achievement while being a war affected society. But what really lack with their business is that they are just satisfied with earning more than enough dollars or pounds or whatever but are failing in building good branded businesses. Might be because we are habited to think inside a small circle and it really stimulates a negative view on being creative. Here the war cannot be a reason since I am talking about those who had already gone abroad and enjoying a very comfortable life with ‘self employment’. If I have not mistaken, most of those people are involved in businesses such as’ supermarkets’ and ‘restaurants’. I do really happy that they are doing well, earning good profits but what if they do it in a large scale and brand it properly and adds some value to our society too? From each country, there are some guys who lead industries and they add values to their societies. Inside Sri Lanka also the same thing applies. What we do is we just complete our degrees and even masters and looking for a company to give a job, we do get it and staying there until the retirement and. I guess we are so fundamentals, so far away from entrepreneurship, so reluctant to think out of the box, so reluctant to keep our pairs of eyes to see this world differently and now we are in a position to think about it. Isn’t it?

Yes. You can achieve your dream….

Dreaming is an awesome experience. We do keep on dreaming for a promotion for the whole life being stuck in the same position. Sometimes we might be desecrated to sit there until the chair gets collapsed. Why? Is achieving a dream that difficult? Then how thousands of people could have already converted their dreams into real? There is no secret other than ‘hundred percent trust’ and ‘hard work’ behind their success stories. Take any leaders of the world. Mostly they might have born in remote villages somewhere in the world. No enough food, no technology, no entertainment, not enough money to even spend for their basic needs. Their only asset is ‘hard work’ and most importantly they have trusted in ‘things might change and one day they also can achieve’. Whenever you don’t have a specific thing or you have discrepancy, you get desire on it. If you don’t have money, you get mad at it and start working on gaining it. Have you ever thought that, if you really work hard, one day you also can become a boss? Everyone must dream to the utmost extent based on their ability and not to the threshold level. But I think major barrier to our lives is our own perceptions. We all do have our own perceptions and most of them are negative. At times, we feel ‘we cannot become successful’ or ‘How can I do that job’. But when we realize it is nothing for us or we are really better than we perceived, sadly the time would be gone. No one else to put the blame other than on our own heads. No option will available other than worrying. So don’t think you are nothing. You can do a lot. Try new things fearlessly. If it fails, learn from it. But try again. You might not be proud at you because you might not have made any good effort up to this minute. But start thinking proud of you just because there is no one else like you in the world. Don’t waste your time in worrying on who you are, what your background is, whether you are ugly or whatever, be positive. Just believe you can become a successful person in future. First of all, trust in yourself. That trust itself will lead you towards a green future.

Thanks to my hometown

Again my vacation went in Jaffna. I could feel as i was staying with my mother. It was something like reminding 'i have to do something' and was a great opportunity to think about those faces and a life that i have almost forgotten. Anyway whenever i go to Jaffna, it reminds something, encourages me to work hard and yes i become so energetic, pleasure and optimist. Staying in jaffna is really a blessing. It brings an awesome feeling of belongingness such as 'am staying with my people', 'am breathing the air of my hometown' , 'am in a place where i have memories of my life each and everywhere i go'. This feeling you can't get it anywhere in the world even in the paradise. Now my soul is delighted, encouraged and peaced. This vacation has become an opportunity that allowed me to relax, to realize what i am now is not what am suppose to be, to make my soul full of peace and positive energy. Thanks to my hometown. Thanks to those memories that encourage me to work hard.

Please……. don’t read this but do it if you are crazy

My Dog VS cat

My dog Jimbo really cares much about his society. He is a modern Hitler and working hard to achieve his dream which is ‘One day dogs will dominate the world’. Especially his strategy towards handling my cat is brilliant. He doesn’t want me giving bones to my cat ‘Bingo’. He tries to be the hero of my home and ruler of Bingo my cat.

On the other hand, Bingo cares much about her ‘cats’ society’. She is solemnly against to that dogs dominate them. Especially she tries cutting the nose of ‘Jimbo’ at each chance she gets.

So I decided to make an end to their fight. I arranged for a small debate with a condition that whoever fails in this debate must become slave to the other.

Now the probabilities are that:

Bingo might win if Jimbo’s nervous system gets vulnerable and starts looking down Bingo’s face, feels very uncomfortable with her enchanting eyes, fair and soft skin, Close-up teeth, rosy lips and innocent but hot look just as Aishwarya Rai.

Jimbo might win if Bingo starts’ feeling it is so unfair to make a guy crying who is having hot eyes just as Hrithik roshan, smart as mahendra singh donny, smiles really cute as Brett lee.
                    …………………………………………………
                    ……………………………………………….
                   ………………………………………………..
                  ………………………………………………….

Hello…Whoever brilliant head reading this, fist get to know few things.
·         I don’t know about yours but my dog and cat can’t really talk
·         My sweetheart Jimbo never seen Aishwarya Rai and likes only me.
·         Bingo likes only to hear that rats are crying. She doesn’t care much about the smiles of Donny, Brett lee, Hrithik roshan or whoever the hot cake.

Post Note: Make sure that your friends not reading this and your enemies reading this.

Girls need to compromise

Compromises have become a must for girls working in industries such as modeling, cinema and even silver screen. No matter how much they are pretty, talented, experienced and popular; they need to compromise. Only the threshold level of compromising might differ person to person based on their level of popularity. Not all but at least a considerable percent of girls doesn’t like showing their bodies but they need to do this in order to survive in these industries. Further compromises have to be continued with camera men, directors, heroes and sometimes with producers. They get liquidated as they show much. Most of these girls’ parents even not knowing in what jobs their daughters are in. Fortunately from industries’ point of view most of the girls are from rural villages. They land in big cities with their dreamful eyes. So their only first aspiration is to make their heads known in those industries. When they start attending interviews only, their dreams get burden. For some who really care much about their reputation and discipline; it takes time to realize that they are nothing without compromises. Even if they don’t like, they have no other options. Most of situations don’t allow them going back to their villages since they have spent a lot for their transportations, albums, payments to photographers and preparations for interviews etc. So they don’t like returning to their homes with empty hands and to look at their innocent parents’ lost faces. This is the point where they start compromising at all. They don’t worry for appearing in front page of magazines topless. They have no care about their reputation, chastity and self esteem. They don’t worry for what will happen suppose if their children get chances at looking at their hot shots in future. These industries contain extreme percent of girls who are having a desecrated fate with large, poor families and owing the responsibility of educating their siblings and even to feed the whole family. Anyway other part of girls in these industries is from rich backgrounds and their only intention is gaining popularity. They belong to upper class families and they compromise nothing since their dads and mums have extreme influences in society. Anyway they only need popularity not even money and have no worries at their topless and shameless.

Valentine’s Day

I am writing quiet after a long time as I was really busy with my projects. When I thought of writing something, I really had no idea on what to write. But I thought it would be suitable in fact, if write something about ‘valentine’s day’ since we are not in that past from it. No wonder, the whole world had become reddish with bouquets of red roses, red heart balloons and small statues containing a nice girl and guy. It doesn’t matter whether you are having a valentine or not, you can enjoy the creative ideas on store decorations and other gift items. Though some argue, Valentine’s day is only beneficial for business people and ‘love’ is not a thing that can be celebrated or worshiped in one day; in my point of view, it still gives an opportunity to those who want to let their ‘love’ to someone, to relax and think what made misunderstanding between those who are broke up and to gain more enchantment from your soul-mate by giving surprise gifts. Celebrating a day for ‘love’ is not that harmful to disciplines of any culture. But what makes others (who don’t have a relationship) uncomfortable is the confusion of what to wear. Even if you wear a common dress; it becomes a sign of revealing something. Let’s say you are wearing a black T-Shirt. When you are going among your friends, you would really hear some voices or noises saying that ‘hey what story made you to wear this colour?’ Next thing is; whenever you switch on TV or whatever the media, you could be able to hear those penniless voices of some poor guys saying ‘I lost myself. I cannot live without her. She made my life spoil’. Who told you to loose yourself? I don’t know which dim-witted wrote this philosophy first ‘Failing in love equals failing in life’. Booking rooms at hotels on Valentine’s Day becomes the climax of celebration. But the sad thing is those room bookers having only ‘temporary relationships’ and this is the maximum way of mishandling the sacredness of this day. So celebrating a day for love is superior for those who really want to make relationships and who are in good relationships. But I actually want to ask why the hell people are misusing this day, celebrating it for something else and not (never) for ‘love’?

Religions and humanity

Humanity is a threshold level of characteristic that is expected from each human living in this planet. But nowadays, the ability of being humans with humanity is lessening among the world’s population. The primary reason for this behaviour could be due to people want more money and chasing behind it to gain all means to save their modern life cycles in which they are adequate whether they like it or not. There are also secondary reasons such as poverty, sick at overcoming Slavism, desire to dominate all others, vulnerabilities of some societies and persons and the advantages taken by others who are physically or financially or politically or socially stronger than them and long listed several etcs. What I mentioned here are only the reasons. But what is the idea behind believing in the concept that religions make peace in the minds of people, even if they can’t strengthen the point of humanity in their minds. I am not talking about god but am noticing the failing point of religions in keeping humans with humanity. You may say that all religions are against to sins and are focusing on creating a strict regulation of living. I do agree in that all religions teach us to go in the right path. But it is only like they are creating kind of fear in the minds of people. Each religion has at least one strict rule that is expected as a ‘must’ to be followed by the followers. What they mostly say is ‘if you don’t follow this, you will go to hell after your death’. So a fear is only created in the minds of followers and not peace. This is the failing point of religions. Humanity cannot be taught. This is just a feeling as you get hungry, thirsty, joy, irritation or whatever it is. Nothing will happen if you fail to have humanity unless it makes a doubt whether you are a human or not. Humanity is an important aspect of every living being that is identified as human on this earth. When you see some one who is suffering, you should automatically try to help as to the level you can. Failure of humanity starts when you start helping only to ensure that you are not making your god anger or just to refuse getting hell after death. This is why I say religions fail in the concept of keeping humans as humans.

Be confident in your decisions

Confident is the key to success. If you are hundred percent confident in whatever you want to do, you are absolutely blessed to do it. When you are hundred percent confident, you are benefited to foresee what your future is. You decide your own life and fate. You are living for yourself and not for those who might have disagreements with your policies, decisions and the way how you want to live. You may consider others’ advises. But decisions must be yours. Say, you made a wrong decision due to some others’ influences. When you get a bad result, you will have no means to regain whatever you missed. At times, you can’t even blame the persons who advised you to take those decisions as they might be very close to you and you will not want to break the relationship for a silly matter. Confident saves you out from unnecessary stress. Confident makes you to live as you like and reduces such pointless misunderstandings with others who criticize you. Then you get no means to blame them for your mistakes and it becomes a key point to increase your responsibility. At times, you might feel like you have really taken a wrong decision so what you learnt something from it. This learning makes excellency in your next decision. Confident creates an accurate pathway to success. It doesn’t mean that you need to be overconfident in something that is really hard for you to achieve. If you actually have a target that seems logical for you to achieve, then no worries, you are smart, you will achieve it.
