From an optimistic’s point of view

See the world from an optimistic ‘point of view. This world is full of opportunities. You have a lot that others don’t have. You have food to survive, water to drink, people to love you etc. Think of people who don’t have them and struggle to even survive in the world. We always think about what we don’t have. I can remember a statement said by someone “Compare your facilities with the people who are under your position and compare you with who do more for your society than you.” An optimist can change the obstacles as opportunities. Thomas Alva Edition could not continue his studies in school. But he did not lose anything. He achieved more in the life than the people who studied in schools. Don’t think poverty as an obstacle. Poverty gives a lot of experiences to our life. When a rich person suddenly becomes poor he realizes who love him and who love his money. It gives an opportunity to understand people. Histories say that poor people became leaders of the world. India’s last president Abdul Kalam born in a remote village that doesn’t have even basic facilities such as electricity and schools. But no one didn’t think that he would become as the president of India. There are millions of success stories of optimists. They always think positively. So see the world as an optimist. This world is full of opportunities. But it is in your hand whether to use them or not.

Without a meaning

I write quite after a long time. I feel my mind has gone for a sick. It doesn’t allow me to think about a topic specifically and write on it. I believe more than 30 years old Sri Lankan civil war has come to an end after a long time. But there is no conclusions yet. I can remember a statement which was said by some one ‘wars temporarily come to an end. But the reasons why they started still remain same.’

Civil war of Sri Lanka seems to be same. It took lags of people’s lives. Majority of population affected by this war became vulnerable to continue their lives in this planet. How many people went foreign countries as refugees? Most of them don’t see their relatives for years and years. I also worry about the resources other than people’s lives in North and East of Sri Lanka. Jaffna is known for calmera trees. But it is very hard to find these trees nowadays. Majority of calmera trees were destroyed in military operations.

A war doesn’t affect only human beings. It affects animals, birds, small living beings and even the whole land. This is what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Think of youth who wasted their talents in war. They could have become leaders of any field. This war did not give a meaning for the people who lost their lives within last 35 years. We live in a world that doesn’t give a meaning for our lives. There is no meaning for deaths, fights, blood and even tears.

Full of cries

This world is full of cries. Sometimes I feel cries become meaningless. Nowadays it is very rare to see a person who made others to cry feels sorry for it. Some people cry for hours. Some others cry for few years and some cry for even their whole life. If you notice, it will be the same people who get harms in the life again and again. Think of people who lost all their family members in Tsunami and living alone. I know one gentle man who lost his seven children and dearest wife to tsunami. And the most tragedy is that he was a solemn god believer. Most obviously war took off millions of people’s lives and think of the ones who gave up their families to war.

It is amazing the discrepancies of life of people who live in this planet. Some are demanding for pizza and they can’t survive without pizza, coke, BMW, McDonalds and other brands that they think these are the only things which make paradise in their life. On the other hand, other part of world is dying without having a cup of porridge at least once a day. Still this discrepancy between haves and not haves decide the cries of world. Haves can be money haves, power haves, brave haves or anything and others are not. Always these haves try to dominate not haves. This would be the ultimate reason for why people cry. If these discrepancies can be eliminated, then a new world will be there that doesn’t have cries anywhere.

I can remember a philosophy about cries of life which was said by someone. A baby announces its birth to the world by its cry. This cry makes others happy since it makes sure that the baby is born without any problems. This baby grows up and either stimulates others’ smile or cry. The one who made others happy in his lifetime makes others to cry when he or she dies. But a person who made others to cry makes them to laugh when he or she dies.

Thanks for mobile phones

I think if there is a reason for how people survive in this artificial world, that will be only mobiles. Sri Lankan Tamils are very good at saying hi and goodbye since they have no option. Most of Tamil youth find ways to go abroad just even to survive. Most of the guys complete degrees and even their masters and then they are going abroad and joining as low-level employees. This war made them to lose their ambitions. The guy who invented mobiles must be worshiped. At most times husband will be in Europe or America. The wife will be in Sri Lanka. She might have problems in getting her visa. Sometimes her fate will decide to wait her for more than five years to see her husband after the wedding. So they get a couples package and talks talks talks until the visa comes. Mothers have other options to show their affection. They make dry foods in homes, pack it and then send it to their sons or daughters who are in foreign. So thanks for mobiles and free packages.

A is A theory

Aristotle developed A is A theory few centuries ago. Simple logic behind this theory is that A cannot be something else at any time. If we take gold, it gets changes from the day it was found. It goes to several persons’ hands and ultimately becomes as a bangle, neckless, wedding ring or a neck chain etc. But basically it is gold.

Humans are just like gold. We get unbelievable changes in our life. Sometimes I ask myself is it me? Just think about our past. Mind of a person is the best diary and it won’t tell lies to us. Sometimes we are too different from our past. A person who had an ambition to become as a doctor may be a business man at present. It doesn’t mean that we don’t like our present. Our interests get changes. Values get changes. Our dressings, lifestyle and even the entire life get changes. Beggars become as millionaires. Millionaires become as beggars. There are incidents where the people who loved us start to hate us and the people who hated start to love us.

The latest way that most of the people prefer in order to make them beauty is changing their skins. Think about Michal Jackson. He got a disease in his skin and there were white dots. It gave an ugly look and then doctors advised him to change his skin that distorted his entire colour in complexion. Most of us don’t know that he was a black several years ago. Changing names is becoming as a norm. People change their names as they like. But remember it doesn’t mean that you become as a new one as you change your name, complexion and life style etc. A is A. It can’t be something else. The people who love you, they do love you accepting your pluses and minuses. There is no best art of living like you.

You might be ugly. You mightn’t have any talents. You might feel lonely. You might think that there is no one even to bother you. But remember still you have one thing. There is no one like you in the world. So you have an identity. If you try to imitate anyone, you lose your identity. Simply A is A, gold is gold and you are you. You cannot be anyone. Believe in the philosophy states no one is there in the world that they can’t do anything. So find your pluses and develop them to show to the world who you are.

Memories of our yard mango tree

This June brings me a lot of memories of our home’s yard mango tree in Jaffna. Usually mango trees bring fruits in this month. Anyhow they start to bloom in April or May. Mango flowers are bunched and almost look like a bouquet. Jaffna is very famous for variety of mangoes. Mango lovers have given several names to those varieties. I can remember a few names which are karutha colomban, Wellai colombam, kilichondu, villatu and ambalavi etc. Youth do not bother much about mango fruits. But they are fans for green ripe mangoes. Eating a ripe mango with the combination of salt and chili power gives the heaven in the earth for most of us. Mango thieves are very popular in this season. There are solemn mango lovers who cut schools, colleges and find ways to steal mangoes from neighbors’’ houses. They are experts in extracting mangoes from the tree by throwing pebbles accurately. Sometimes these pebbles break out the window glasses of neighbors and then you can imagine what will happen next. These mango fights, mango funs and mango thieves are very famous in Jaffna.

Here I should mention about the cuckoo birds and crows. Cuckoos don’t know the mechanism of making nests. So they spend majority of their life in mango or papa trees. In April, trees get a greeny look and bloom. Until this April, cuckoos seem to be quiet and don’t make any sounds. But when April starts, they become joyful and make charming hums. We can see their romans in trees. Crows also find mango trees intending to taste their sweet fruits. As these trees are very large and shadowy, they find it comfortable to make nests there. In April or May they start to construct their nests by dried leaves and other wastages. Both cuckoos and crows are supposed to put eggs in these months. Since cuckoos have no way, they find crows’ nests to put up eggs. But the female crow will be in the nest always. Again cuckoos must find a way to cheat the crow. So male cuckoo sits in the tree where the crow’s nest is constructed and continuously makes sound to irritate the crow. Crow gets angry and goes out to chase the cuckoo. Using this opportunity the female cuckoo goes inside and puts the eggs into the nest. Since these eggs are almost same in the shape and colour, crow believes that the eggs are its own. Both these birds are black and almost similar in appearance. So the crow looks after the chick cuckoos without knowing the truth. When chick cuckoos grow up, they make different sounds from chick crows. Then crow realizes the truth and chases the chicks out of nest. The crow will almost intend to kill the chick cuckoos after it realized the truth. Anyhow they will escape from the situation. There are incidents where the cuckoo babies go inside people’s houses and then they are looked after by men. After a few days they will release the bird.

In this month, crows should have started to chase the chicks out of nests in Jaffna. In April, May and June the life will be almost going with mango trees. The nature is undividable from Jaffna life. But we have seriously lost our real life with war. Most of us are staying in Colombo, Europe, USA and of course all over the world and recalling our past. There is no doubt that you are having mango memories. And obviously we do miss them.

Is it the life?

I often ask this question myself. But I couldn’t remember a day that I got an exact answer for this question. Psychology says that a person has two lives. One is the dream life and the other one is obviously real.
There is somewhat a discrepancy between the dream life that we want to be and the real life that we are. How many of us like the actual appearance, voice, complexion, figure and talents etc of us. So what makes this amazing life meaningful?

Life does have adjustments
Life does have rapid changes that anyone didn’t even think
Life does have cries
It does also have joys
For some people it blooms like a flower
For some it makes a nightmare in the earth

We do adjust for our family. We do adjust for our culture. We do adjust for the situations that make our life in most times. Think of people who have lost their life with wars, natural disasters etc. People who believe in god say it as fate. Anyhow the reality says it as life. There is no other word for this. I don’t think that a single person in this planet has lived like exactly what he or she wanted to be. But still the options are in our hands.

Make life more efficient by adjusting a few things
Or
Enjoy the life what was given
Or
Stuck in the middle of dream
And
Reality

What makes us to smile?

It is very rare a person smiles at a peer nowadays. People thing that they are losing something when they smile. Honestly how many us know the name of the very nearest neighbor of our home? There are incidents where we remember the face of a person but not who he is. It makes an argument inside us whether to smile at that person or not? At most situations, he also will be in the same problem. This is the reality that we gained with our modern life styles. Man in this current global village smiles only when he gets money and anything that selfishly satisfy him. But if we ask ourselves that is it the exact joyfulness of our life? No. Then what makes us to smile? There is a thing than money that decides our joy and life. It all depends on a person’s mind set. One can even make breakfast happily with a cup of porridge. But some are not. One can study with a diminishing lamp. Others are not. One can enjoy the nature. Some are not. Similarly one can smile with pain while others are not.

I am a refugee

Wait I am a refugee
I know how others and you laugh at me
But
I don’t mind

I just want a cup of porridge
To fill my stomach

I just want a shelter
To relax

I just want a cup of water
When I get thirst

I don’t mind whether
I can bath or not

I don’t mind those who
Call me as beggar

I don’t mind those who tell
I don’t have a country

You may ask why
I don’t mind them?

Because
I was better than in position
Those who laugh at me and
Those who chase me

But now I am a refugee
Wait
I am counting my losses

I lost all my relatives
I lost all belongings

I lost my education
I lost my identity

I lost my ambition
I lost my shy

I lost my feelings
Simply I lost me

I couldn’t fix an amount
For my losses

So So I am
Priceless

So definitely I am better
Than you

I don’t mind even if you
Laugh now
